Kyoko Akins, hair extroardinaire

Name: Kyoko Akins
Occupation: Co-owner of Dragonfly Salon
I live: in Atlanta

My work: In addition to running the salon, I specialize in hair styling for brides and editorial photo shoots.

My favorite possession: A tiny diamond heart necklace my mother gave me when I was 7.

My hometown: I was born in Fukuoka, Japan, but I claim Atlanta.

Words I live by: “Peace does not mean to be in a place with no noise, trouble, or hard work.  It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.”-Unknown

I can’t live without: My large 4 shot skim latte!

I am most proud of:  My patience, which I learned from my grandfather

I’m inspired by:  My sister.  She is the most motivated person I’ve ever known.

What keeps me awake at night: Making lists in my head of all the things I need to accomplish.

One thing I never want to do again:  Try to walk across the Chattahoochee River when the river is down….you just end up stuck waist deep in mud!

If I could be totally wild, I would:  I would sell or give away everything and become nomadic traveling and living in as many places as possible.

My passion: Laughter.

I am guilty of: Hitting the snooze button for over half an hour!

Right now I’m reading: The Tin Drum by Günter Grass

.

The one item that has changed my life: Owning a business.

My theme song: “Wild World,” by Cat Stevens

.

The food I could eat every day:  Dark chocolate ice cream.

The food I never want to eat again: Cheese!

The best thing I ever won: A valentine’s day teddy bear from Dairy Queen when I was 8 years old.

My best friend says I am: In desperate need of a navigation system!  I am always lost.

I still can’t get the hang of: Going to bed on time.

I wish I’d known: That my parents were right and it is much better and easier to be my quirky self.

The world would be a better place, if only:
People listened to each other.

I’d like to learn to: Salsa, play the piano again, speak Japanese again.

Something most people don’t know about me: I want to be a pastry chef.

My mother always said: Get up every morning and look at yourself in the mirror, smile, and say “I’m gorgeous and I’m going to have a fantastic day!”

The worst idea I’ve ever had: Sitting on a fence by the Do Not Sit sign during dinner time at an alligator pond in Kenya
.

The smartest woman I know: My sister

My first job: Cake tour guide at Café Intermezzo.

What are you most vain about? My hair of course.

What do you fear the most? Being cold.

Early bird or night owl?: Definitely night owl

.

Favorite color and why?: Yellow. It’s just so happy.

I feel strongest when: I have accomplished everything on my to-do list for the day.

When I grow up, I want to be: Retired.

At the end of a long day, the first thing I want to do is: Get home to my puppies and veg on the couch with a glass of wine.

Always... Brush your teeth.

Never... Say never!

I wish… I could travel more.
