A Stay-cation

I skipped the vacation this Memorial Day weekend and opted for a Stay-cation. 

Why flit off to the beach when staying at home seemed like a luxurious change of pace for me?

I had been wanting to re-do my kitchen for months. Because the previous renovators had opted for the schmucky way of painting cabinets (painting the outside white and leaving the original inside a chocolate-colored wood) I knew that someday I was going to have to remove every last spice bottle, box of Sardines and wine glass to correct the problem.

That day finally came. So in between marathon episodes of “Step It Up and Dance” and HBO plays of “Knocked  Up“ I got it done. It was relaxing. I felt a sense of accomplishment. And there was none of that guilty-vacation feeling of “I should’ve stayed home and got all those nit-picky renovations done that I’ve been wanting to do.” I finally had the time.

Stay-cations can be great. I loafed. I chowed. I spent some time in my house where I rarely am. And I slept. And slept. It was wonderful. And it didn’t cost me a thing...
