“I got into the industry as a band manager,” says Monica. She eventually started running recording studios where a phone call in Philly changed everything. “Dallas Austin was a wild card producer recording a group of nobodies called Boys II Men,” she says. “They needed to record at my studio but didn’t have any money left from the label to get there or pay for it.” Monica decided to open the doors early and went by and picked them up. Years later, it paid off. Dallas moved her to Atlanta and is now one of her biggest clients. She opened a music production company called Milk Money Consulting in 2001. With clients like Will Smith, Akon and The Pussycat Dolls, she’s cornered a niche market where she manages a group of some of the country’s most sought after sound engineers. “We actually make records,” she says. “If Atlantic needs an artist to do sessions in Atlanta, they call us.”

What you don’t know about this self-taught success:

- She started in the music industry by managing a local band in Rhode Island.

- This Inman park resident says the secret to her success is “to do the right thing and be good to people.” She says, “There are some great interns I was nice to who are now famous producers.”

- Monica’s forte is connecting people. She maintains being a strong figure in the industry by keeping her point-of-view present without being swayed. All of her knowledge regarding the music industry is self-taught, which further justifies Monica as a determined and strong female.

- To this day, she can’t believe she has made a successful business out of combining her undergraduate degree of Economics with playing instruments and her love for music.
