Editor's Note
I am an abroad kind of broad. I am happiest traveling. I’ve danced with the Samburu in Kenya, sipped tea at The Stafford in London and stood silently watching windmills spin (and spin, and spin) in Holland. But I’ve got nothing on the Atlanta women we featured for our “Winging It” issue this month. A tribe of world travelers and global wanderers, these five get-up-and-go girls have their passports on overdrive. Euripedes, an ancient Greek playwright said, “Experience travel—these are as education in themselves.” See, he knew! And how far could he have gone? He lived in 400 B.C., way before trains, cars and airplanes were invented. Travel is education. I might as well have received my Masters in gastronomy while indulging in local fare in Reggio Emilia and a PhD in curbing my Ugly American tendency to be loud in Paris. With much to learn from the food, dress and everyday customs of other cultures, it’s not only far away places that can provide us an excellent education. I’m still enthralled whenever I visit the American Wild West. I’ve roamed all over Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado and Montana. And while we’re all from the same country, even the indigenous people there always seem like they live a world away.
