Selam Welde is not just another pretty face.

You wouldn't know it by looking at her, but Selam was a tomboy most of her life. "My sister is really girly. Growing up, she drove me insane," says the 30-year-old beauty shop owner. "These days, I'm more of a girly girl." A living Aphrodite, Selam has an exotic attractiveness that stems from her Eritrea North African heritage. "I've always been the one my friends come to for tips," says Selam. After graduating from Clarke Atlanta University, she went on to graduate school at Troy State. Her MBA project was a business plan for a spa and she was encouraged to follow through with it. "I come from a family of entrepreneurs," says the owner of Polished Beauty Lounge in Vinings. "I think beauty should be easy," she says. "It's whatever makes you feel good. And it should be playful and whimsical." Her spa is paradise, complete with an Island Goddess treatment that is befitting her Aphrodite-esque nature.
