The Power of Awareness

Last week I wrote about the power of cheese. This week I’m writing about the power of awareness.

See, I got “roped into” attending a Power of Awareness workshop in East Cobb this weekend. My argument? I had too much to do, way too many errands, people to see, friends to catch up with, grocery shopping to get done, magazines to read and way too many Bravo shows to watch to spend an entire weekend focused on myself.

Turns out, I was wrong.

After work on Friday, I bitched and moaned about how I didn’t need to be doing this workshop the whole way to the center in Marietta. Then I spent ample time trying to figure out which excuse would be convincing enough to allow me to leave early. As soon as I sat in my seat (and I was late by the way, just to show them!) it became very apparent I was supposed to be there.

I have studied the Law of Attraction for years (long before “The Secret”),  read Eckhart Tolle, love me some Oprah on her spiritual days, read “Excuse Me your Life is Waiting”  and have generally just been on the quest for living my best life. All of that is well and good, and I truly have too many examples in my life not to believe reading and working on these ideas pays off...but then this Power of Awareness workshop brought it all together for me.

Not only did I end up not using any of my excuses I had conjured up, I stayed for every minute of the weekend. I met about 12 of the coolest cats in the world too. The room was filled with amazing people. Some who were stuck in life’s doldrums, some who were about to lose their spouse, some who wanted to take it to the next level (whatever that might be), some that were once bored housewives on the treadmill of life and some who just wanted to find out what is their true purpose. (The biggest question of all, right?)

Laina Orlando, once a tennis-playing, PTA’ing, bored and busy East Cobb wife and mother who decided to change her life, leads the workshop. (This is her...)

She used all of the tools that she taught me this weekend to change her life and I left there after 3 days knowing more about myself and how to overcome my obstacles, than all of my readings and Oprah-watching could have ever manifested. So, while I like the power of cheese, I like the power of awareness more.
