Greatest idea ever!

After drowning myself in drawers and cabinets full of pore minimizers, fruit-extract moisturizers, glycolic acid pads and toners galore (What’s toner for anyway?), I decided to bag it all up and bring it to someone who can read through all the crap marketing messages of Dior, Lancome and Facelogic, and tell me what the heck all this stuff is for and how and how often should I use it?

Enter Lisa Marie. After getting an amazing facial-slash-massage at Spadelic in Roswell, Lisa Marie (the cutest spa specialist ever) sensed my frustration when she, like most facial places, gave me samples of a skin care line. I’m sure my face crunched up because inside I was thinking “What do I do with this stuff? What is it even for? I have too many products already!” So LM, being the empathist she is, sensed my confusion and volunteered for me to bring in all of my facial cleansers and moisturizers (of which I have a slew) for her to look at, tell me what to keep, what to throw out how to use each one and in what order. And the best part? She wasn’t trying to sell me a thing. She just wanted to help.
I think she thought I was just frontin’ (as they say in rap videos), that I wasn’t going to actually come through—but, oh did I! I showed up a few days later with a bag of 10 or 11 products that I knew were high end, and had spent good money on, but had not a clue as to how to use them.
So, she started by reading the ingredients. Here’s what I gleaned from our session:
1. If the product has “fragrance” as one of it’s top ingredients, this is a bad thing. You don’t want to put fragrance on your face. The alcohol will dry you out.
2. Natural items like fruit extracts, vitamins, antioxidants and vegetable ingredients like carrots or seed, are good! Keep those.
3. Don’t over exfoliate. Exfoliate maybe once or twice a week.
4. If an item is too rough on your skin or cause your face to burn, don’t throw it away. Use it on your feet! The skin on your feet is much tougher and can use a little softening up.
5. If you’re moisturizer or eye cream has “preservatives” in it. That is also a bad thing.
I highly recommend you take in your bag of tricks to see Lisa Marie, or any spa specialist. This is what they live for. As this blustery winter weather keeps drying out my skin, I felt like I had to take matters into my own hands. Do something proactive. Know what I mean?
