New Year's Resolutions for 2008

Thursday, January, 3, 2008

I LOVE New Year’s Eve.It is without question at the top my “favorite days of the year” list.No festivity is more refreshing to me than celebrating with an “out with the old, in with the new” mentality.In fact, for as long as I can remember, I have measured the good, the bad and the ugly of my life from one New Year’s Eve to the following New Year’s Eve, rather than from birthday to birthday.More importantly, I have always believed that whatever I am doing on New Year’s Eve will actually set the tone for the rest of my year.. Hence, the Eve’s criteria must involve, loved ones, dear friends (if accessible), cocktails, dancing, laughter—and of course a big smooch at the stroke of midnight.If, on New Year’s Day, I cannot recall 100% of the details of the previous night’s events—SUCCESS!

Perhaps I have a Cinderella-esque New Year’s Eve complex—I suppose everyone has a cross to bear, right?I can definitely convey that my 2008 started off with a bang.   And a special thanks to all of the people we had the opportunity to share it with!

Now that I have digested my body weight in delicious luck (black eyed peas) and money (collard greens), I can take a moment to ponder the blank pages of the year ahead and officially declare my resolutions for 2008.

I resolve to [insert drum roll]:

Drink more water;

Get back in touch with my friends, near and far;

Toss junk mail before it enters the house;

Fill in my son’s baby book with whatever information I can remember before his 2nd birthday;

Finish three book club books that I started, liked, and then never opened again;

Read less celebrity rags;

Read more political rags;

Send out thank you notes in a more timely fashion;

Resist the unconscious urge to put crumbs of food that I have retrieved from my son’s hair into my mouth (yes, gross, imagine how I feel);

Slough my closet of the five year old sweaters that I keep telling myself that I will wear again, but never do;and finally,

To forward a link to this blog to everyone I know whilst squashing all fears of making a complete fool of myself.

So that’s my list.It is not as complicated as world peace, but all of the items are realistic and attainable.  In the land of motherhood, where nothing ever goes as expected, attainable goals are the key to success!

Happy 2008!

I resolve to...Eat better (chips begone!), drink less, gossip less, work harder, read more, exercise more, blah blah blah. Ok, so it's the same list as last year. But I gotta keep trying. Great blog. Great resolutions. I'll try to follow your lead. Stephanie Editor of skirt! Atlanta
