Ever since he was in high school at Westminster, Steve has been involved with music in one way or another. "By age fifteen, I was a photographer for 96 Rock and was working with bands," says the now 47-year-old. For the past 17 years, Steve's owned The Variety Playhouse in Atlanta's music mecca: Little Five Points. In the early days he attended every show, "because I did everything, including clean toilettes." But these days he can take time away from the successful venue to work on his other company Windstorm Productions, which produces concerts all over the Southeast. Steve's been responsible for breaking some of the biggest female soloists in the industry. "Variety Playhouse is the first place Sarah McLaughlin played and Nora Jones was booked weeks before her debut album came out," he says. It's also the first place Tori Amos played back in '91. "My wife and I heard a song of hers on a college radio station and thought it was great," says Steve. "I called her agent the next day." Breaking an artist is one of the best parts of his job. "That, and the fact that I get to wear shorts to work."
What do you like best about wearing a skirt? "My legs are freer than in shorts and I can feel a breeze."
What do you like most about reading skirt!?: "I read for the informed stories, clever insights and the spunky skirt! attitude."
